Apple Silicone Upgrade Coming Soon

Apple provided a translation/emulation layer called Rosetta 2 to allow Intel-based Mac applications (x86_64) to run on Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4, etc.).  As a result, there was no need to build an Apple Silicone based deployment of NM Collector Software.

What Rosetta 2 does

Rosetta 2 dynamically translates Intel machine code into ARM64 code that Apple Silicon processors can execute.  This allowed most existing Intel Mac applications to continue working during Apple’s transition away from Intel CPUs beginning in 2020.

What has changed?

The message in the image above just recently began showing up on users of Apple Silicone.  This means the Rosetta translator will no longer be available in future Mac Operating Systems.  Thus the need to build an Apple Silicone Version of NM Collector Software.

When will it be available?

This new Silicone compatible deployment will be available with the next release of NM Collector Software within a few months or so.

What to do until then?

Go ahead and use the current Intel version.  We have until 2027 to come up with the Apple Silicone deployment.
