Cross Platform Status

Updated: Jan 29

Our stated goal is to provide collecting software for all platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS with the ability to share your data across your platforms. A simple approach would have been to build a web application that could be accessed by any device.

However, that would required data to be stored on the web (Cloud storage). This approach was rejected since data security is of utmost importance to us. We want you to be in complete control of your data so we store your data on your device. You can copy it to the web if you wish but that is not required to use our products.

Here is our status for each platform.

Windows, Mac, and Linux

Deployed and currently used by many customers. Current issues, if any, can be found here: https://www.nmcollector.net/post/known-issues. Suggested enhancements for future releases include the following:

  • Select fields to include in the list of items on the main page

  • Develop a rules engine that enables field values to be copied from one field to another and drop down lists to be copied from one drop down list to another. For example, copy addresses entered into the Receipt tab to the Disposition tab.

  • Enable drag and drop of pictures directly from Google Photos without having to download photos first.

Android

Initial release is currently in beta testing on the Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nmcollector.nmCollectorCP). Please let us know if you want to be a beta tester.

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Initial release is currently in beta testing but not yet in the App Store (https://i.diawi.com/eKJnUw). Please let us know if you want to be a beta tester.

Data Exchange Process

In order to take full advantage of the desktop and mobile apps there must be a way to exchange data between them. This is currently achieved as follows:

  1. Export the data from one platform

  2. Copy the exported data to another platform

  3. Import the exported data from one platform into the other

Step 2 can be accomplished via "The Cloud" (iTunes, Google Docs, or Microsoft OneDrive to name a few) or through a direct USB connection between a mobile device and a computer. You choose whether or not to expose your data to "The Cloud" or not.
