Is there a way to transfer my database to an unencrypted version? I encrypted mine and it is preventing me from using it on my phone.

I'm afraid once encrypted you can't go back. However, you can export the content and then import it to the android app if your phone is an android. If you want to have an unencrypted version of your database you can install a new copy, export the content from your encrypted database, and then import the exported files to your new unencrypted copy.

I just downloaded and starting to load information, but have a few questions:
- Is there a way to edit the default responses? I tried to enter Imbel as a mfg, but a default "IMI" forces my response to read "IMbel". Minor problem.
- Is there a way to total cost and sales amounts for inventories?
- How do I direct the back-up to a flash drive? For some reason, no choices appear.

1. You can edit the dropdown lists via the Manage menu - just select the category of dropdowns you want to edit and then the specific dropdown list. In your case, that would be Manage -> Edit Identification Dropdown Lists. When the page opens select Firearms from the first dropdown list and Manufacturer from the second. Now you can edit the data in the dropdown list.

2. You can see totals in the Statistics window which is opened by clicking the Statistics button on the top of the Identification and Description tabs.

3. The best way to backup is by using your file system to copy directories from one location to another. Please see https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/support1/backups/

Sorry so slow to get back to you, somehow I missed this message. I do not know what it could be other than the database directory is missing or read only.

I do not know what to suggest other than recover your database directory from backup. Be sure to keep a copy of your current database directory just in case.

If you want you can create a password by following the instructions in the printable user manual: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/documentation/NMCollectorJEManual.pdf. However, I do not think that is what you are really asking. You already have a fully activated version.

What do you mean by "get it to work on Windows 10?" What issue(s) are you encountering?

Hi, so if you backed up your collection all you have to do is copy that to the new upgrade. That way you keep your data and your activation. Please see the download page (https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/) for instructions.

My only experience with this is documented in the known issues page. The only time I have heard of this is when NM Collector is installed to a Windows default installation directory or there are problems with the Java installation. Since yours was working it can't be the installation directory issue. Do you know if there have been any changes to your java installation on your computer? One option is to upgrade to the latest version which has Java embedded with the program so you do not have to rely on Java installed on your computer.

Here is the entry from the known issues page:

Program exhibits strange behavior and or data changes that you have made do not save. Assuming that you did not install to “C:\Program Files\…” or “C:\Program Files(x86)\…” directories this is caused by a disabled or improperly configured installation of Java on your computer. A properly installed, configured, and working copy of Java is a pre-requisite for NM Collector Software to operate properly. Please make sure you have the latest version of Java installed and running on your computer by visiting this site: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Been using your software for years. Love it. Had a bit of trouble migrating to v. 4.0.1 for my Mac, but up and running now.

I have an issue with Reports. No matter what report I run, the first 3 items in my collection are left off. They show up, with all their data, in the collection, but when I run a report the first three just aren't there.

Suggestions??

Please verify that "Yes" is selected for "Include in Reports?" on the Identification tab for the items that are not showing up in the reports.

Hi, no need to export from NM Collector Software version 3 to 4. Just have to copy your database to a new directory. The instructions are on this page: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/. Please scroll down to the section titled: "How To Migrate Your Database From The Old Installation to the New Installation."

Problem Solved - I am getting notifications again.

Well, I answered all of the outstanding requests and then researched the lack of notifications. I found that gmail is suppressing them. I only see them if I specifically search for them and then I get a big warning that they may be phishing attempts.

I changed my configurations to send them to a non-gmail account and now I see them. It does warn me about the possibility that these are phishing emails but at least it lets me see them!!!

I think the best thing to do is to upgrade NM Collector Software to the latest version. Apple changed the way java programs are supposed to be deployed which forced me to reconfigure the software. More information here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/

I'm sorry, I am not sure what to do about that. I do not support or understand MyGunDB. I will venture a guess though. Since it thinks the file is open by another application I would consider closing all applications, shutting down your computer, restarting your computer, and then trying again.

So, that message will only go away once the data is saved. It sounds like it is having problems saving the data. Are you running it off of a network drive? I would suggest trying it on your local hard drive.

No license purchase is required. However, you do have to check the "Edit Captions" check box in order to add the new fields.

Other than that, since I charge so little for the software, and I have a full time job unrelated to this software, I really cannot afford to provide personalized support to everyone who purchases a copy. I would highly encourage you to please read the published documentation and examples on my web pages.
