I am not able to find the .exe file to open the NMCollector program.
I have the original CD I purchased in 2010 (never got it working) and the thumb drive I recently purchased from Brownells which I am unable to open as well. Would appreciate your help.

I think we should focus on the thumb drive. Do these instructions not help?

https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/usage/startUp/Thank%20you%20for%20purchasing%20NM%20Collector%20Software%20New.htm

Are you getting an error when you try to start it?

Thanks

I am trying to find an app that I can use on my iPad to catalog a firearm collection. The firearms are mostly antiques, but I’d like it to be detailed as much as possible, with photos and history notes. Is your app available for an iPad? Thank you.

Sorry, I do not have an iOS version. I am planning to work on one starting first thing next year but that does not help you right now.
William Jolley William Jolley from New Bern wrote on May 18, 2020 at 10:45 am:
Thank you for your help. I attempted to follow the instructions you sent for upgrading the program. As I feared I've evidently did something incorrect, when I click on my NM desktop icon it no longer opens the NM first page, instead it presents me with a windows 'Open File' dialog box asking me if I want to Run the NM Collector. I clicked on run and now the first page that loads indicates I have Ver 4.0 but it also states I have 29 days remaining on my activation when I have the lifetime license.
When I got into the app I found all my pictures and data are gone and it appears I'm back to square one. I attempted to run several of the report options but still receive the compiling error I initially reported.
In trying to figure this out I found that I have two NM folders in my 'C' folder one is titled NM Collector Software JE and within it are two icons named NMCollectorJE6.exe and the other is titled NMCollectorJE6.jar. If I click on either of those I receive an error msg that the NM Collector Database (nmcswDB) is missing.
The second folder under 'C' is titled NM Collector SW. within this folder are two subfolders, one named NM Collector Software JE and it contains the same two icons described above which also state the database is missing if I click on them. The second sub folder is named NMCollectorJEforWin, which has a single sub folder under it that contains an icon named NMCollectorJE.exe, when I click on that I get the same windows 'Open File' dialog box that I get when I click on the NM desktop icon asking me if I want to Run the program.
My apologizes for the brain hurter, as I said I'm not good with computers and I'm sure the issue is user induced. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

We need to find your original installation location or your backup to get your data back. We also need to know where you extracted the new installation to.

Once we have that information we can copy your data from the original installation location (or your backup) to the new installation location.

As an alternative, you can send your original data to me and I can send you the latest version with your data. You can send it on a USB or we can figure out a way to electronically transfer it.

Thanks

I receive the following error code whenever I attempt to create any reports: Report failed due to the following error [Error compiling report java source files: C:\Users\Bill and Lisa Laptop\Downloads\NM Collector SW\NMCollectorJEfor Win\NMCollectorJE\app\inventory_1589367301930_896189.java]
The ending numbers change each time depending on which report I select. This issue started in the last year or so, I'm not good with computers so I've done without reports but would like to update everything now.
Thank you.
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
Sorry, I do not know what the issue is and, of course, it works on my computer. I wonder if we need to try reinstalling your NM Collector Software. If you have an out of date version it might be a good time to upgrade. The upgrade instructions are here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/upgrade/

Alternatively, in case something is wrong with the reports installation, you could try upgrading just the reports: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/report/reports-upgrade/

Please keep us informed of your status.

Thanks

I found it it appears I bought it Thursday, November 17, 2016 8:17 PM from the email I received from you back then. EDR
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
Can you forward that email to me? Those emails go out from an automated system I wrote. I can look up recent emails but I don't keep records that far back.

I need your email address from your purchase to send the activation.

🙂

Thanks!

I don't keep a database of activations sent. I could, but I choose not to. However, if you used PayPal they keep a record and we can look it up. Also, if you can send me any kind of proof of purchase I will be happy to resend it.

Thank you.

Hello,
I think I just bought NM Collector but don't remember getting a license key. I also cannot find a record of it. I do have a portable version I bought some years ago with a lifetime activation (2.5.1 I think) I would like to install an updated version on my computer. How do I get a new license key.

2). Can I have a portable version and back up the entries on my desktop by moving the files from one to the other?
Thanks,
Barry Noble

1. I did find your recent purchase and resent the activation. Please check your spam folder in case it is flagged as junk mail for some reason. You then just need to download and install the upgrade. Once you install the upgrade you can copy your nmcswDB folder from the old location to the new location to transfer your data. It will also carry over your original lifetime activation. I can refund your most recent purchase if you get things working with the old activation.

2. Yes, that is a perfect way to make a current backup (https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/support1/backups/) and use it on other computers.

Hello Clayton, My Name is Chris Flynn I am a Detective/Sergeant with the Cambridge Maryland Police Department. Part of my job function is to manage our department inventory of seized weapons and document test fires for the weapons for court purposes. I downloaded a copy of your software to try and we are very impressed with the software and it's flexibility in changing the captions to fit our needs. We are looking at managing approximately 100 to 150 firearms utilizing your software. Being a small city, our budget is limited and our firearms management at this point involves a notebook and a pen. We are requesting a copy of the software for our agency. Thank You

When I say backup failed, it is that the thumbdrive I put NMJE on is in the system but windows 10 gives me the message that .dll will damage the system on not to proceed. Since I am not that computer proficient I backoff. Somewhere in windows 7 I had the key you sent but don't now because all previous emails of mine were not able to transfer according to last pc technician. The thumb drive is apparently just an evaluation copy. If you have no record either would it be simpler to re-purchase?
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
So there are no .dll files involved with NM Collector Software (it is a java application) so I do not know where that error is coming from. I agree, better not to use the USB flash drive under those circumstances.

I don't keep my own records of purchases but, if you used PayPal, we should be able to find a record of it in PayPal. Do you remember what email you used if you purchased using PayPal?

Thanks

Clayton, I had purchased version 3.01 many years ago. I do not have the computer that I installed it on. I do have the activation Key and the data backup. I tried to start the old program and it fails. Can I download version 4.01 and use the same activation key? Thank you
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
Absolutely and I encourage you to do that!

The download and instructions can be found here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/

Of course, make a backup of your current installation directory first (even though it is not starting it should still have your data!)

Thanks

Howdy. After 2773 days I have finally hit a snag with the NMCollectorJE software. When I make a new entry, it is not saved. The new item will be there in the list but, when I close the program, the next time I open it my recently saved info is not there. Any ideas? It says it has been running as JElite but it has said that for a very long time. Can you help me? Thanks in advance.
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
So, in the past, whenever that sort of thing started happening it was a Java issue. You could troubleshoot java on your computer (I will find and send you instructions for that) or you might consider upgrading to the latest version which comes with it's own embedded java. The download and instructions can be found here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/

Of course, make a backup of your current installation directory first!

Thanks

I purchased NM Gun Collector software 2006 0r 7, it was very helpful. As I have ungraded my computer, it no longer opens. I hate to lose the work I have done. any suggestions. I still have the CD.
I have no license key. Number on CD is 0601198717.
Thanks
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
Hi, no registration required for the old CD! When you say it no longer opens, do you see any error messages? If I had to guess, not knowing anything else but that you upgraded Windows, I would guess you went from an old version of Windows with one application security scheme that NM Gun Collector conformed to when it was written to a new Windows security scheme that NM Gun Collector was not written to conform to (please see https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.org/).

If that is the case, I think we need to move your current installation to a new installation directory. Probably the best way to do that is to backup your current data (nmgcsw.mdb and other .mdb, .mdw, and .ini files found in the same directory as the nmgcsw.mdb file), uninstall the current version, reinstall to a new directory, then copy your nmgcsw.mdb (and other files) from the backup to the new installation.

However, you may be experiencing some other problem so let me know exactly what happens when you try to run your current installation.

Thank you

Clay

I think it was Mid October 2019 I purchased your software. Being a business owner, I procrastinated using the program due to a rather large list of other issues. In the process of having the system changed over to windows 10 {3 diff individuals} windows 7 had to be wiped. Lost everything and backup failed. Could you help with a solution. Thanks!

Thank you for notifying me. It looks like my server email authentication is failing. I am working on it now. In the mean-time, I manually sent your activation from my desktop. Sorry for the inconvenience.

For a MacOS installation on the hard drive where does the database file reside? NMCollectorJE.app is in the Applications folder. Is there an installation step to create a database folder in the MacOS home directory?
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
NMCollectorJE.app\Contents\Resources\nmcswDB ... no additional installation required as long as you extract it from the downloaded compressed file.

Thanks

I am using 3.0.1 and am very please. I recently had an new experience where I actually sold something and filled out the disposition form. I figured out I need to do an Add. That made almost everything work except for price. After I enter a price, I disappears and goes back to zero. I have tried a lot of different formats and can not figure out what I need to do to make it work. I sure you have a solution. Thanks for your help.

Thank you so much for telling me the version. I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest. That can be complicated so if you don't want to do it yourself you can send a USB flash drive to me and I will upgrade it for you. If you want to do it yourself, the instructions can be found here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/

If you want me to do it for you, please send a USB flash drive with your current nmcollector software directory in its entirety to:

Perhaps the best way is by sending me a usb flash drive but I can setup a secure FTP site if you want to send it electronically. Let me know.

I am using what I think is the latest version. I downloaded it a few days ago from the site. I purchased the activation last night thinking that may have been the issue. It seemed to be working fine yesterday while I was entering data but when I reopened it last night it only showed six entries. I entered a few more to test, closed program and it was still the same. Only the six original entries.
Admin Reply by: cjpryor
It sounds like you are not using a USB flash drive so that is not the problem. I am afraid I do not know how to fix this. If you want to send me your database I can try to figure it out. If you want a refund I understand and will provide it.

Thank you.
