Hello,
I'm using the free version now of the software but plan to purchase soon. Here is my question, when entering my data, when I put a price in the box for it and hit save it goes back to zero, even if I put a number in there and try to go to a new entry to say put in the purchase date the price field goes back to zero. How can I stop it from doing that?
I love your program by the way, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide me with in helping to solve this problem.

Are any other fields behaving in this way? If so, are you using a Mac? If so, there is a known issue when running directly from the download without extracting the contents of the download.

Now that I have my inventory built in free version, when I purchase flash drive, can I up load entire database with pics to flash drive with no probs. Also, any other resources for yoru flash drive other than Brownells? Thanks

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. Given your circumstance, the easiest thing for you to do is purchase your own flask drive and then copy your current nm collector software to that flash drive. Once you do that you can just purchase the activation and apply it to your copy on your usb flash drive. You can purchase from Brownells but that will make it more difficult to transfer your data to the Brownel's drive.

I've been a user of the software for many years, & I've never completely understood how the Bar Code function is supposed to work. I have the latest version (4.0.1). I installed the fonts & if I type letters & numbers in the Bar Code field, a bar code is generated in the field immediately above.

1).Is that the extent it is to work - meaning I should type characters of my own designation into the field to create the barcode?

2). What is the function of the [Go] button in the Barcode field? If I click it, nothing appears to happen. I thought If I'm in a record, & selected a different bar code from the drop down menu hitting the [Go] button would send me to that record but instead that code is then assigned to the current record & I have to correct it.

It's a great program - I'm glad I found it & and thank you for creating it!

Hi,

That bar code was meant for use with a bar code reader and printed bar code labels. ๐Ÿ™‚ You can read more about it in the printable on-line manual here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/documentation/NMCollectorJEManual.pdf

It is actually the value of the Unique ID field displayed in a bar code font.

If you put your cursor in that bar code field and then scan a bar code that was printed out and press the go button it will go to that item. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also found on your site here that there is a new version that should take care of my issues. Questions... do I need to "purchase" the newer version? or by downloading to the USB stick it will upgrade the older version?

Are you sure this is not due to a new version of Excel or perhaps the name extension that you are saving to? Can you post the step by step process you are using to export your data to Excel and then a step by step process of how you open it in Excel?

If you are using nm collector software, not nm gun collector software, it should run on your iMac. Unfortunately, some people have experienced problems with their Macs so you should download the software and verify that it works on your Mac. After that, it is a matter of copying your database from the old installation to the new installation.

If you happen to have downloaded the version intended to run off of the usb you can just plug your usb into the Mac and it should run ... although the newer Macs required that I re-architect the software to meet their requirements, so, if you have an older version on the USB it won't run on the newer Mac. In that case you will have to migrate to the new version of NM Collector software as described here: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/

You can sort by any column in the statistics page by clicking the heading. If you double click on an item in the statistics page it will take you to that item in the main program. I hope that helps.

Hi,

Thank you for purchasing NM Collector Software. It is a totally different program from the old NM Gun Collector Software. I think the last time we communicated I thought you were using version 2.2 of NM Collector Software so my instructions would not have worked for NM Gun Collector Software.

Anyway, there is no NMCSW.mdb file in NM Collector Software. Instead, there is a folder named nmcswDB. You can copy this entire folder to a safe location for backup. However, the best backup would be the entire installation directory. If you copy the entire program to a USB flash drive, with NM Collector Software, you have the additional benefit of being able to run it from the USB flash drive on any computer without installing it on every computer that you want to run it on like you used to have to do with NM Gun Collector Software.

It should automatically transfer your data to the new format if you upgrade to 3.0.1 first. After that, you will have to manually copy your data from 3.0.1 to 4.0.1. The instructions are on the download pages.

Be sure to backup your original 2.20 data first.

Unfortunately, I cannot duplicate the problem. When I leave the password blank it exits the program after three tries. Would you mind trying a fresh install in a completely different location and let me know how that behaves?

Worst case, could you run it off of a USB flash drive and keep the flash drive locked up when not in use?

I purchased your nmCollector software yesterday for my Mac running Mojave 10.14.2 I downloaded the software and received the activation key. When I start the program, it says "Evaluation license activation was successful. Clock OK to continue." Then I click on the app and the program starts and is says "This copy licensed to [Evaluation]. Whenever I try to enter any information, it defaults back to the original screen setup. I deleted the program, reinstalled it and the same thing happens. As it exists now, I can't use it.

Sorry about that. Please rest assured I will refund your money if we cannot get it to work. Unfortunately, I cannot duplicate the issue on my Mac so I really do not know what to say. This sort of thing used to have to do with improperly configured Java on the Mac but now I package Java with the software so it shouldn't matter. I will research this issue some more and see if I can figure out something to try.

Just out of curiosity, will it work when run from a USB flash drive? Also, can you tell me if you have java installed on your Mac? My current theory is perhaps there is a conflict between the java embedded in the application and java installed on the Mac but I still can't duplicate the issue. Can you take a look at the nmcsw.log file (located in /Users/nmcollector/Desktop/NMCollectorJE/app) immediately after you try to save a change and post the contents here? I just want to see if there are any error messages posted there.

No problem all my data is there But the password dosen't seem to work I put in my password I made up and then again as required and hit ok Close the program and then start up password box comes up and if I hit OK without putting anything in the password box it still loads the program and anyone can see my data

Are you referring to NM Collector Software? If so, I can't seem to duplicate the problem. If I enable password protection and enter a password it will not let me open the program unless I enter the correct password.

Just guessing, but you might try the following:

1. Backup your current NM Collector Software installation directory by copying it to a new location in case something goes wrong in the steps below.

2. Disable the password protection by unchecking Options > Security > Enable Password Protection.

3. Close the program and restart it. It should come back without asking for a password.

4. Enable the password protection by checking Options > Security > Enable Password Protection.

Let me know if that works.

I have both NM Gun Collector software and NM Collector Software JE. Both stopped working after my anti-virus software did a disk cleanup. How could this be?

I originally purchased NM Gun Collector Software, and experienced this problem. I found it had become free public domain software, so I downloaded and installed it from the internet. My database was intact and the reinstall worked. Now the disk cleanup software has made both programs unusable. I did have a backup install on a thumb drive, but cannot currently locate it.

Please provide me with whatever is necessary to reinstall both programs, and advice on how to prevent this situation from reoccurring in the future.

First, I want to thank you for you purchases. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Second, if you canโ€™t find backups Iโ€™m not sure you can recover your data but we can try.

Third, what disk cleanup software are you using? I suspect it must be deleting required files. Hopefully it did not delete any files that contain your data. I would think something has to change in your disk cleanup software.

This is the recovery plan I would suggest:

NM Gun Collector Software
1. Locate your database files and copy them somewhere safe for use later in this process.
a. auxNMGCSW.mdb
b. clearNMGCSW.mdb
c. NMGCSW.ldb
d. nmgcsw.mdb
e. NMGCSW.MDW
f. security.ldb
g. security.mdb
2. Use Windows Add/Remove programs to unistall NM Gun Collector Software. This will leave key files behind but that is okay. Keep them.
3. Download and install NM Gun Collector Software to the same location as you had it before. You can download it from https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.org/download/
4. Hopefully, since you are installing back to the original location, and assuming none of your database files were corrupted by the disk cleanup program, it should work and you should still have your data after the install.
5. If it works but it is not your data, please copy all of those database files that you saved to a safe location back into the newly installed installation directory.

NM Collector Software
1. Move (yes, please move) your current database to a safe location. Your current database location depends on what version of the software you are running.
a. Pre-4.0: The nmcswDB folder located in your installation directory
b. 4.0: The \NMCollectorJE.app\Contents\Resources\nmcswDB folder in your installation directory
2. Download and install the latest NM Collector Software from: https://www.nmcollectorsoftware.com/download/
3. Delete the nmcswDB folder from the new installation (this is important to make sure files from your database to not get mixed with files from the default database).
4. Copy your current database from the safe location to the newly installed location.

Please let me know if you need more help.

I have just downloaded the latest (30 day trial version) on 17-01-2019 (Europe date). As I am located in Europe, i can use help as some abbreviations do not tell me anything for example A&D ?

When click the help button/ usage notes, I get the "Oops! That page canโ€™t be found" message. I would like to buy the full version, but first like to read a users manual.

I have all my weapon/ customers data in my Excel file type folder. For some reason I am not able copy&past from my Excel data folder into nmcollector folder. is this because I use the 30 day trial?

When click report/firearms, i have tried all type of reports, but for some reason I get a report, but no date, on what day my firearm was inserted, while inserting the firearm the date was filled in.

Please advise me,

3. I fixed the broken link (and more). Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

4. I'm not sure why copying from Excel is not working. Are you copying one field at a time or doing some sort of bulk load? If you are willing to adjust the contents of your excel data to match the expected format for NM Collector Software you can do a bulk import. 5. I do not know what is happening with your reports. Naturally, they work for me. I suspect it may be some sort of data issue. I may have to ask you to send me your data so I can debug the issue.

2.0 is going way back. I assume you have data you wan't to migrate. If that is the case, I would suggest installing the latest to an entirely new location and then copy your old database to the new location.


Your database is a folder named nmcswDB. It's location in the file structure has changed since version 4.0. Depending on where you originally installed NM Collector Software 2.0, your database should be in a location similar to this: C:\NMCollectorJE\nmcswDB. Your new 4.0.1 installation directory should be something like this: C:\NMCollectorJE\NMCollectorJE.app\Contents\Resources\nmcswDB.


I would suggest deleting the new nmcswDB directory entirely before you copy your old database over to the new location.
