Version 6.0.2 Upgrade

WARNINGS:

1. Do not apply the upgrade if you are running the Evaluation Version. Doing so will make it harder for you to install the real version at a later date.

2. Do not uninstall the current version before installing the upgrade. To minimize filesize, the latest upgrade includes only changed components. In other words, it is designed to be installed over the current version.

GET Upgrade HERE

Click here to download the latest upgrade.

You will then have to run the downloaded file to actually install the upgrade.

Notes:

1. Current users of the shareware version (4.8.20 or earlier) must retain their registered name and unlock key in case they lose their database. Loss of data should never happen but it is always possible.

If you have backed up your database, all you need to do is install the latest version and recover your backed up database.

If you have lost your backup database and have to recover NM Gun Collector Software from scratch, the proper procedure for reinstalling the software is as follows (These instructions assume a freshly formatted hard drive with no previous installation of NM Gun Collector Software. If this is not true, you need to delete your previous installation directory (C:\Program Files\nmCollector) after uninstalling the previous installation. Deleting the directory will delete your database so this should only be a last resort and you are willing to re-enter all of your data from scratch.):
a. Obtain a copy of the 4.8.20 shareware software. You can use your own or obtain one here.
b. Install the 4.8.20 shareware version.
c. Unlock your shareware version using the name and key provided to you when you registered your copy.
d. Upgrade to version 5.0 (or later).

If this procedure is not followed you will end up with the Evaluation Version with no provision for an unlock key.

2. There is no difference in functionality between the Evaluation (Version 4.9.x) and the Unlocked (Retail) (Version 5.x). The difference in numbering allows one to upgrade to the Unlocked (Retail) Version from the Evaluation Version. The upgrade remembers whether you have an Evaluation or Unlocked version while at the same time upgrading the version number to 5.x. This is why applying the Upgrade to an Evaluation version will prevent you from unlocking it with the Retail Version. If you have any questions, please contact me before applying the upgrade. If you call me after applying the upgrade it will be too late and you will forfeit your data should you choose to purchase the software at a later date.

3. Occasionally the upgrade from 4.8.20 and earlier to 5.0 and later versions fails.  This is due to extensive database changes between 4.8 and 5.0 that sometimes fail during the upgrade.  There is no way to predict or know beforehand when this failure will occur.  The only way to recover is to send me the database so I can upgrade it for you.  Sometimes I am not available to perform the manual database upgrade immediately and you may have to wait a few days for this service.

4. Upgrade Problem on Vista:  Upgrades may be failing on all PCs Running Vista - please let me know if an upgrade works for you on Vista.  In order to preserve your data I write each new release in such a way that it uses a Windows Component known as ADOX to add new tables to your existing database. This database upgrade occurs the first time you run NM Gun Collector Software after it has been upgraded. Unfortunately, on occassion, this component is missing or damaged on some Windows systems including every copy of Vista I have tried so far. When that is the case you will get strange errors after installing the upgrade.

If an upgrade fails on Vista you have four options as listed below.  All of these options assume that, per upgrade instructions, you backed up your database before attempting the upgrade.
