• I strive to provide the best support possible.  When emailing me or posting to the support forum, please keep in mind that sometimes I am out of town or otherwise unable to respond immediately.  When this happens, I appreciate your patience. 
  
• The current version is 6.0.2 (get the latest upgrade).
• I try to upgrade the software on a regular basis so if you are having problems one of the first things to do is make sure you are running the latest version.
• Please do not hesitate to report problems and enhancement requests.  They will be added to my list of things to consider for the next upgrade. 
• Use the Windows Diagnostics Tool to help find Windows Related problems and report them to me.
• Here are the only installation problems that I am aware of:


• Upgrade Problems NOTE: Upgrades may be failing on all PCs Running Vista - please let me know if an upgrade works for you on Vista.

  In order to preserve your data I write each new release in such a way that it uses a Windows Component known as ADOX to add new tables to your existing database. This database upgrade occurs the first time you run NM Gun Collector Software after it has been upgraded. Unfortunately, on occassion, this component is missing or damaged on some Windows systems. When that is the case you will get strange errors after installing the upgrade.

  If an upgrade fails on Vista you have four options as listed below.  All of these options assume that, per upgrade instructions, you backed up your database before attempting the upgrade.

• Upgrade to the latest version of NM Gun Collector on your old computer.  This will help ensure a successful upgrade of the NM Gun Collector database.  Install the latest version of NM Gun Collector on Vista and then migrate your data from the old computer to Vista.
• Upgrade using another Windows PC on which ADOX is functioning (with fresh, unaltered Windows install - preferably NOT Vista).
  
  1. Install NM Gun Collector Software using your original installation CD.
  2. Recover your backed up database to the new installation directory replacing the existing nmgcsw.mdb file with the backup.
  3. Install the NM Gun Collector Sofware upgrade.
  4. Run the new upgraded NM Gun Collector Software. This will upgrade your database.
  5. Copy the upgraded database (nmgcsw.mdb) to your other computer where the upgrade failed.
• Send your database (nmgcsw.mdb) to me to upgrade for you.
  
  1. Contact me to let me know that you will be sending me your database.
  2. Attach your copy of nmgcsw.mdb from your installation directory to an email sent to me.
  3. I will perform the upgrade and send the updated datbase to you as a self extracting archive.
  4. Run the self extracting archive and extract the new nmgcsw.mdb to your installation directory.
• Revert to the previous version and forget the upgrade (not reccomended).
1. Use Add/Remove programs to uninstall all instances of NM Gun Collector Software
2. Delete the installation directory (Default: "c:\Program Files\nmCollector")
3. Reinstall your original version from your installation CD
4. Recover your backed up database to the installation directory replacing the existing nmgcsw.mdb file with the backup.

• scrrun.dll Installation Error: If you see the following error message during installation (some XP and Windows 2000 systems), please click the 'OK' button and continue with the installation.



• MDAC Installation Error:  If you encounter the following error during the install, this simply means that you already have a current or later version of MDAC and do not need to install this one.  Be sure to click the "Continue" button.



• Windows Installer Error: "You must install a Windows Service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows installer service."

Problem Description: Windows Installer is required to install NM Gun Collector Software. This comes with the latest Windows Operating Systems. However, it is not present in all of them. When not present at all, the installation will install the latest version of the Windows Installer. However, some Windows Systems have earlier versions of Windows Installer. In that case the installation knows only that Windows Installer is present but not that it is an out of date version. Therefore, under these circumstances, the above error will occur.

Solution: The latest Windows Installer must be installed.  It can be downloaded from the web as follows:
