NM Gun Collector Software
Bar Code Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
General Information
(scroll down for trouble shooting problems)
The best place to learn more about how to use bar codes in NM Gun Collector Software is the help provided with the software. Press F1 while the program is running and navigate to the Bar Code section.
Limited bar coding capability was added to version 5.6. This is the place to go first with any NM Gun Collector Software bar code related questions.
In order to implement bar codes in NM Gun Collector Software, a Free 3 of 9 Bar Code Font is included in the installation.
To successfully use bar codes with NM Gun Collector Software you must have a bar code reader and a high quality printer.
- I found the modified "Cue Cat Bar Code Reader" sold on eBay to work fine. Note that these were originally given away freely as part of a controversial marketing plan. It was controversial because these were manufactured in such a way as to enable monitoring of your internet activity through the software that was provided with the reader. This configuration required that the bar code reader be used with the software ... it will not work without the accompanying software. However, these bar code readers can be physically modified to bypass the monitoring feature and work as a standard bar code reader without the monitoring software. This monitoring disabled configuration is the only one that will work with NM Gun Collector Software.
- The disabled Cue Cat Bar Code Reader is the only bar code reader that I have tested the software with and so it is the only reader that I can support at this time.
- Be sure to get the hardware modified version or you will have to figure out how to modify it yourself or it will not work with NM Gun Collector Software.
- If you want to be sure to get a bar code reader that works with NM Gun Collector Software, contact me to get a good (safe) bar code reader at a reasonable price.
