Star Stamped Japanese Sword
Please email me if you have any questions or comments.
I have been told the following about this blade ...
This is a traditionally made blade with a star stamp in good condition in military mounts. It has an old wartime polish with scratches as you would expect but no obviouse flaws. As a rule star stamped swords are traditionally made with tamahagane and go through various tests before being approved. Even today the Japanese customs will allow star stamp blade into the country because it has artistic merit. If found with a Seki or Showa stamp they will class it utilitarian and send it back.
This smith, OKIMITSU from OKI is a Jumei Tosho and on paper he is above the skill of smiths like Emura, Amahide, Nagamitsu and Kanezane who did not make the rank. The sword is in good condition but the polish is old wartime grade and with the expected scrathes, the quality is average to good amongst Star stamp.
